I may get some cheaper copies printed at Leeds Uni to send to people like Simon Manchip and design studios I am still targeting for placement.
Mike showed us how to print booklets to postscript files which I will need to do to get a digital file I can send off to the printers. At first I thought I would have to set up an Indesign file for
each section but of course the print booklet feature means I can send a range to create a PS file. I needed an Adobe piece of software of Mike which enable me to print to any format:
I want to make use of all the 'efficient' ways of using Indesign that Mike has shown us so planning is essential. I want to use the Master pages to set up fixed items on pages such as page numbers.
I have also been brushing up on Grids by looking at the Design Basics Grid book written by Ambrose and Harris and also the Type and Typography book by Baines and Haslam.
When i imported my dissertation from word to indesign I used the show hidden characters to get rid of extra carriage returns and spacing. I also used the paragraph styles to avoid widows.
This was also a useful post on Adobe help about correct use of em and en dashes and paragraph spacing.
I am also experimenting using a baseline grid which may not be the best way to go.
I think the Adobe Caslon works quite well as this is a text heavy book however I think it needs a San Serif contrast for titles and references. One of my favourite fonts, Univers works well with Caslon so I am going to go with that.
When i met up with the local printer Keith iIgot a price off him to print 25 A3 sheets full colour double sided and he has given me a quote for £26. Whilst its is more expensive than Doc he will do it for me same day on Monday 20th May so it gives me the weekend to finalise the content for the book. Also there are no additional charges for postage, keith has offered to drop it off for me!
