Brief 6 Design context- Brand Design

the 17 sides of a cultural id

This article on Brand New is about Stefan Sagmesiter's branding of the architecturally iconic building The casa du musica which is based in Portugal.   The whole concept is based upon the shape of the building and the shapes created by different perspectives of it.

I like the concept as the permutations and combinations are endless yet it still retains its identity as the shapes are geometric shapes are very strong. Whenever I read these articles I always go to the comments as well as there is usually a good debate going on.  There is definitely a mixed response although the negativity could be because the article was written six years ago and brands have changed since then!  Some designers think that although the concept is clever when explained the viewer totally misses the context of the original images unless it is explained.  I like the idea as it is a Cultural Space that they can change what the shape is filled with depending on what Cultural event is taking place so the promotional material not only promotes the event or artists but also the building all at the same time.

Ans six years later its still going strong....
