Brief 6 Design and layout inspiration

Twitter really has a marvellous way of sharing inspiration with me.  Just as I started designing the layout for my book I came across this link to Adrian Shaugnessy's latest book at Unit Editions:

I have a few unit edition books and I love how Spin designs these books.  More importantly the content is rich and full of ideas.  Needless to say I have ordered this  but alas it wont be here til after FMP.  However in true Unit editions style they are adding free links to Adrian's Essays in the book.

I love the clean layouts with the images not too large.

The concept emerging for my book is to use the GF Smith citrine stock for the end pages, have a simple black or grey cloth cover and use black, white, grey and yellow in the book.

A couple of links to Adrians first two essays:

This essay was first published in Design Observer in 15 August 2011 following the London riots.  An interesting view on the responsibility of Designers and Brands in creating desire in young people to aspire to lifestyles but which also creates anger if they perceive they cant be part of these worlds. And the emergence of new designers who perceive a Social responsibility.

First published on the Design Observer, 9 November 2010.  An essay about a box set of Pixies Albums being art directed by Vaugn Oliver and original 4Ad photographer Simon Larbalestier.
