Not made a great deal of progress this week with this brief for two reasons:
My time -PPD/Design context/Brief one
Tom hasn't supplied me with any of the items we had agreed last week.
The good news is Tom has organised a photographer to photograph his bench ( he has sold one and his other work is at home.) We are booked in the photography studio next Friday 3 May 2013. As the photos are for Toms portfolio this should be fine as he isn't trying to sell the benches to customers. I was keen for him to get some shots in a park so the benches were in context however this isn't practical due to the size of the bench and also transporting it. I am going to pop in the studio to offer some advice about product shot ideas.
Tom thinks he can use the laser cut/resin idea for the business cards. I am going to get some vector based images to in for the CAD machines over the weekend. We agreed to try 10 different layouts to see which looked the most effective. Due to Tom not yet having a web site or email or know where he will live at this stage we are just putting his logo, name and number on the card. He is going to let me take some photos of his process. The minimum he can cut his 4mm and the corners if sharp are naturally rounded off so we discussed the implications of this on his logo:
The first logo is his preferred one however the sharp thin leaf stem may not be suitable for the laser/resin ideas. So I suggested either making it thicket (second) or just rounding off. We are going with option 2.
He has agreed to come up with a personal statement and send me his CV. We talked about who he would target this at and he is going to think about potential companies. I suggested given he hasn't much to add to a website yet maybe I could design the CV with images of his work like a mini portfolio or maybe a booklet or hotdog fold book.
I suggested he blog all our progress for his ow PPD blog as he his course haven't done much due to a tutor leaving.
Some of his friends have opened Etsy accounts however given Tom hasn't got anything to sell this doesn't seem the way to go.
